Tomorrow shall be my dancing day

We are singing this traditional carol in our Christmas concert this month:

Tomorrow shall be my dancing day;

I would my true love did so chance

To see the legend of my play,

To call my true love to my dance;

Chorus

Sing, oh! my love, oh! my love, my love, my love,

This have I done for my true love

Then was I born of a virgin pure,

Of her I took fleshly substance

Thus was I knit to man’s nature

To call my true love to my dance. Chorus

In a manger laid, and wrapped I was

So very poor, this was my chance

Betwixt an ox and a silly poor ass

To call my true love to my dance. Chorus

  1. Beautiful! It is wonderful to belong to a church with a healthy helping of MUSIC.

    I told our friend, MW, the other day, parents of young children should find a church that SINGS… because A CHILD WILL NEVER REMEMBER A SERMON, but THEY WILL FOREVER REMEMBER THE MUSIC/WORSHIP/HYMNS.

    I have the words of a Christmas song set to the music of “Morning Has Broken.” Will find and post if you guys are interested.

  2. Child in the Manger (Tune – “Morning Has Broken)

    Child in the manger, Infant of Mary,

    Came as a stranger, born in the stall.

    Sweet little Jesus sent down from heaven,

    God’s gift of new life offered to all.

    Prophets foretold Him, Infant of Wonder.

    Angels beheld Him there on His throne.

    Worthy the Savior of all our praises,

    Happy and ever blest are His own.

  3. Thanks for sharing that! I’d known the music for it since playing in my college’s Christmas concert 20 years ago, but hadn’t known most of the words.
