The rules are a bit arcane. I would say the swordsman’s final cut would have caused a serious wound, and would possibly have been fatal. But the axe man didn’t feel it, and was still able to get in his final killing blow, which is (I believe) realistic. But in real life it would likely have been a mutual kill.
This is complicated by the fact that the axe man is wearing his mail brynje for protection, while the swordsman is unarmored. This is probably because the fight’s in Decorah, which is an event at the end of July, and is consistently stinking hot. The rules say you have to hit a guy about three times on a mailed area for it to count as a wound.
Three times on mail makes sense, and of course, you may not feel it as well there. They could use referees.
