Sproul (1939-2017) passed away this afternoon at age 78.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtsbooks.com\/index\/page\/category\/category_id\/1559\">Go buy three or four of his books for yourself and family.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ligonier.org\/blog\/remembering-rc-sproul\/\">Stephen Nichols summarizes Dr. Sproul&#8217;s life<\/a> in this post at Ligonier Ministries&#8217; site.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"caps\">R.C.<\/span>\u00a0Sproul was a theologian who served the church. He admired the Reformers not only for the content of their message, but for the way they took that message to the people. They were \u201cbattlefield theologians,\u201d as he called them. Many first heard of the five\u00a0<em>solas<\/em>\u00a0of the Reformation through\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">R.C.<\/span>\u00a0Sproul\u2019s teaching.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"caps\">R.C.<\/span>\u00a0often recalled his first encounter with the God of the Bible. As a new Christian and a freshman in college, he devoured the Bible. One thing stood out from his reading: God is a God who plays for keeps. The Psalms, the story of Uzzah,\u00a0<a class=\"lbsBibleRef lbsBibleRef\" href=\"http:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Genesis%2015.17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-reference=\"Genesis 15.17\" data-version=\"esv\">Genesis 15:17<\/a>, Mary\u2019s\u00a0<em>Magnificat<\/em>,\u00a0<a class=\"lbsBibleRef lbsBibleRef\" href=\"http:\/\/biblia.com\/bible\/esv\/Luke%2016.16%E2%80%9317\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-reference=\"Luke 16.16\u201317\" data-version=\"esv\">Luke 16:16\u201317<\/a>, and, of course, Isaiah 6\u2014the drama of these texts captivated\u00a0<span class=\"caps\">R.C.<\/span>\u00a0from the moment he first read\u00a0them.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>May the Lord bless us with 1,000 just like Dr. Sproul in our generation and the next, men and women who will lift up the cross by the power of His Spirit for the perseverance of His kingdom.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>R.C.
