I won\u2019t tell you what it\u2019s called in Norwegian, because you\u2019ll laugh.<\/p>\n<p>All right, I\u2019ll tell you if you insist. But don\u2019t laugh.<\/p>\n<p><em>Kristi Himmelfartsdagen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ascension Day is one of those sadly neglected church festivals that\u2019s actually pretty meaningful. Ascension Day ties up the bow of the Resurrection, you might say. It finishes the operation, resolves the chord.<\/p>\n<p>It has a number of implications. I saw a list today, and there were more than I\u2019d ever thought about.<\/p>\n<p>But I\u2019ll mention the one that I remember, one Francis Schaeffer mentioned in one of his books.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ascension Day verifies the physicality of Christian faith.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If you believe (and if you don\u2019t, you\u2019re not really a Christian) that Jesus rose from the dead with a body \u2013 a functioning body that could be touched and that ate food \u2013 then where is that body now?<\/p>\n<p>The Ascension tells us that it\u2019s with God in Heaven. Not some \u201cmetaphysical other.\u201d Not the land of spirits and ghosts and legends. Some physical place.
