Not a lot, but there are reasons to hope things may pick up a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I did a little housework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I have nothing to write about. I&#8217;m blank. In lieu of an actual intellectual contribution to the world wide web, I offer the opening titles from a truly mediocre Viking movie, <em>The Long Ships<\/em>, with Richard Widmark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4l9JN0-yRyQ\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This film, beyond its general inaccuracy and implausibility, commits the great sin of being unworthy of its source material &#8212; the fine novel <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Long-Ships-Review-Books-Classics\/dp\/1590173465\/ref=sr_1_fkmrnull_1?crid=2HBLBGKZIYTZO&amp;keywords=the+long+ships+frans+g.+bengtsson&amp;qid=1553814489&amp;s=gateway&amp;sprefix=the+long+ship%2Caps%2C276&amp;sr=8-1-fkmrnull&amp;tag=brandbooks-20\">The Long Ship<\/a>s<\/em>, by Fran Gunnar Bengtsson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You may note that the ship&#8217;s rudder is (properly) on the starboard side in some shots, and occasionally on the port side. This is the result of a cheat on the film editors&#8217; parts. They just reversed the print. For some reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I owned a 45 rpm vinyl disc of this song &#8212; a cousin had it and didn&#8217;t want it, and she gave it to me. I think I listened to it once &#8212; somehow I left it sitting a car window and it melted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Only the first of many disappointments connected with this movie.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I got a little translation work to do.
