Day One<\/strong> of the Festival of Nations<\/a> is done. This was the easy day \u2013 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Tomorrow and Saturday will be roughly 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday wraps it up for good at 6:00 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today and tomorrow morning were\/are student days. The place\nrings with the laughter of children, and the ennui of teens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I say \u201crings,\u201d I mean it. The River Centre is part of a complex (adjective<\/em>) complex (noun<\/em>) comprising the Excel Energy Center, the Roy Wilkins Auditorium, and probably a couple other institutions I never noticed. What the River Centre appears to be \u2013 mostly \u2013 is the basement of the whole thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am not a sun worshiper. I wear a hat for shade when I go\noutside, and never wear shorts. In general, I prefer to spend my time indoors,\naway from the sunburn and insect bites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But a day in the River Centre drives me to consider nudism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Not really.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s not only the artificial light \u2013 I expect they replaced\nall the fluorescents with LEDs long ago \u2013 but the sound of the place. The\nreverberations of noise off the bunker walls. I\u2019m too old for this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, I recently invested in a stock of Viking Legacy<\/a><\/em> (the paper version is available from Saga Publishing<\/a>, even though Amazon only carries the Kindle version. For some reason). I\u2019m eager to recoup my expenses. Even at the expense of voluntary incarceration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sold 3 copies today, plus one of West Oversea<\/a><\/em>. I consider that OK for student days at the Festival. I don\u2019t expect to sell a lot of copies to kids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomorrow should, I hope, bring serious sales. I seem to\nrecall I\u2019ve had good sales in the past (it\u2019s been a few years).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One high school guy came by and told me he already owned the\nbook. And he hadn\u2019t bought it from me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
