Since this precisely echoed the plot of my novel Death\u2019s Doors, I wrote about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that the story was false. <a href=\"https:\/\/reason.com\/2019\/06\/05\/everyone-got-the-dutch-teen-euthanasia-story-wrong\/?fbclid=IwAR1px6MYxvTskdDG5e7VHtLRw5NM9qNZKb7Cfo0Wd0RGTfb_PQumemFaeJc\">This from Reason<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Pothoven did indeed apply with a clinic for The Netherlands&#8217; legal euthanasia process, but physicians reportedly denied her request,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gelderlander.nl\/home\/noa-16-uit-arnhem-is-nu-al-klaar-met-haar-verwoeste-leven~a01a7bd1\/\">saying she was too young<\/a>, her brain was not fully developed yet, and she should try more trauma treatment first.<\/p><p>Her recent death came after a long struggle with anorexia and depression, in which the teen ultimately refused to consume food, water, or anything to keep her alive.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>The whole story seems to me to be still kind of muddy.\nNevertheless, the central point of my post was the evil of government-enabled\nsuicide, and in this case the government was in fact blameless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I apologize.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have no doubt the<em> Death\u2019s Doors<\/em> parallel is coming, but it is not yet.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I posted, in good faith, an article that described the state-sanctioned assisted suicide of a 17-year-old girl in the Netherlands.
