Keith Moray\u2019s Torquil McKinnon series<\/strong> is a pleasant and atmospheric set of \u201ccozy\u201d police procedurals that play out on the fictional island of West Uist in the Scottish Hebrides. I\u2019ve been following them with enjoyment, and Death in Transit<\/a><\/em> was an enjoyable addition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time around, the remote island is once again the center\nof international attention, due to an astronomical event, \u201cthe conjunction of\nVenus and Mercury and the transit of Mercury,\u201d clearly visible from there. The\nphenomenon attracts an odd assortment of outsiders \u2013 media people, a noted\nastronomer, and a motley group of New Agers with astrological pretentions. But\nthe discovery of a murdered body floating in the harbor dampens the excitement,\nand a further murder raises apprehensions. Pressured, as always, by his\nunsympathetic off-island superior, Inspector Torquil McKinnon will have to\nuncover old secrets, resentments, and rivalries before the true killer is\nrevealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was nothing very novel about Death in Transit,<\/em> which put the likeable regular cast through its usual paces among fondly described characters and locations. But it was fun, like all the books in the series. Recommended, with no important reservations for language or content that I can recall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
