Jackson to Direct Napoleonic Dragons in Temeraire

Director Peter Jackson appears to have purchased the film rights to a novel series in which dragons are used during the Napoleonic era. Naomi Novik, whose first novel, His Majesty’s Dragon, garnered a bit a praise, has written three books in her Temeraire series. I see that Sarah Weinman likes them, and so does Anne McCaffrey.

  1. I’ve read about one and a half of them (due to their popularity and the difficulty of findign MMPBs (which these are exclusively) on the disorganized racks at the library). They’re fun to read, and the author does a good job of introducing us to the world gradually. The British men in the story are a bit defanged for my taste, and Jackson’s collaborators Fran Walsh and Phillippa Boyens will prolly completely emasculate ’em, but this should be interesting.
