I suppose the aforementioned journalists (and the politicians I mention) could always cop the Humpty-Dumpty plea:
“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”
This isn’t nearly as important as finding nothing in the universe! Now THAT is something.
Finding nothing? Pffft! My son does that all the time. Send him looking for his toothbrush, or dirty socks on his bedroom floor, and he finds no end of nothing.
