From the Barna Group: “A new Barna Group study shows that most Christian parents will purchase [CDs, movies, games] for their children despite their misgivings about the content of those products. The result will be stress for many well-intentioned but morally uncertain parents, and inappropriate exposure for millions of morally vulnerable children.”
That is so sad.
My son-in-law will be increasing the size and number of building blocks in the set I keep here for the grandchildren. Last year that set of blocks was my favorite gift.
Whatever happened to imagination?
On the bright side, 75% of Christian-identifying parents buying DVD’s and 67% of Christian-identifying parents buying CD’s show no discomfort. Statistics can be read very deceptively, and there are a hundred unanswered questions (starting with the obvious: what percentage of parents refuse to buy media products that their children want on moral grounds? Without this statistic, we don’t know how much of that 75% is morally upright or how much is morally apathetic.)
But I don’t think the fact that parents worry about compromise while raising their children is anything new.
