The most depressing things about this is that, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not that big an injustice. And yet it depresses me anyway.
I’d really probably feel happier about this if I didn’t see it as yet another example of a corporation ignoring its purpose (making art/entertainment) in order to eek the hope of just a little more money in the long run.
I have much more sympathy for the writers since I talked to someone from Fresno. At first, I thought the writers were straining at gnats, but they may have a good case. Why in the world are the studios and production companies playing hard ball on this? Is one trying to put the other in his place?
I’ve seen it speculated that the studios’ intention is to break the union, once and for all. I’m no union booster, but I think I loathe the studios more.
