I’ve been thinking of my sister lately. I think she’s a fan of NPR’s “What, What . . . Don’t Tell Me!” It’s hilarious. I have it on now, one of the repeats they have during the weekend. Have you heard it?
Morning Coffee & Afternoon Tea makes this comment on something my sister told me she is enjoying too: “Don’t get me started on having Michael York . . . ruining The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe from the Chronicles of Narnia boxed set I got — although I have to say the bad experience was nicely balanced by the heaven of listening to Jeremy Northam reading The Silver Chair – oh yummy yummy, I could just eat him up!”
I have to agree about Northam, (Knightley in the Paltrow version of Emma), and his lovely voice. He’s easy on the eyes, but his voice is easy on the ear as well: deep and well-rounded. But, were I choosing the actor who has played an Austen “hero” to read to me, I’d go with Alan Rickman. He played Colonel Brandon in Ang Lee’s Sense and Sensibility, and now is Prof. Snape in the Harry Potter adapts. And suprisingly, Mike Rowe, of Discovery Channel’s Dirty Jobs has a dishy voice as well.
I just wrote “dishy,” which proves I am w-a-y too involved in the topic of men’s voices.
I can’t say I know what ‘dishy’ means other than ‘appealing.’ I like those two actors voices too, and that’s as much as I’ll say on that.
Well, I’ve had the experience of an audio book reader ruining a book for me, but I’m really liking Michael York in LW&W so far. I mean, REALLY liking it! I’m not sure I’d call him “dishy” however, though I agree about Mike Rowe. He’s a cutie in a smarmy game show host sort of way.
