There’ll never be another Judith Durham…

There’s much talk today of the death of Olivia Newton-John, the famous Australian singer. And that’s appropriate. She was a great talent (not to mention a heartthrob for my generation).

But I just learned of the death, last Friday, of another great Australian singer. Judith Durham of the Seekers succumbed to a long-standing lung condition. She was 79.

According to what I’ve read, Miss Durham was a Christian who hesitated at first to go into secular music because she was committed to Gospel.

The Seekers’ music was unique. I hope it lasts forever, because it sure means a lot to this old man.

Rest in peace.

  1. I just listened to Georgia girl and it brought and it brought back memories. I had just learned about Judith’s death and felt sad when I learned about it. However I was comforted to know that she was a Christian. She will be greatly missed.

  2. Rest in peace beautiful lady. I graduated high school in 68. I suppose I must have been so self involved that I didn’t pay much mind to Judith, but I rediscovered her a while back and began to realize just how much beauty i had been missing all that time, and now she’s gone. I know I’ll never find another you. Such a sweet heart gone forever.

    1. I’m a similar case. Never really paid much attention to the Seekers when they were big, but gradually realized their greatness after years had passed.

  3. Judith Durham and the seekers were absolutely a fabulous group. When I hear then singing it’s such a beautiful sound, a sound that will never be recreated They were a clean cut group and I can listen to their music all day As for the death of Judith Durham it was not just a loss to Australia her death was a loss to the world.

  4. As a teenager in the mid to late 1960’s, The Seekers were one my favorite bands. Their music was refreshing & beautiful to listen to. We live in a world today, full of so called musicians and singer’s, that think they have so much talent, groups like The Seekers put them to shame. You can hear & know the music comes from their natural God given talent. I am so glad I came across their station on Pandora Music Channel. it is all I listen to now. Thank you Seekers for your dedication to producing music, that for me, will never die. Judith had a pure angelic voice. She is singing with the Angel’s now.

  5. The carnival is over” would bring tears to my eyes as an 11-year-old way back in 1973.

My parents divorced in 1970 which was a time of turmoil in my life. My Dad and I left Sydney for Singapore for about six weeks. I asked Dad to buy me the Seekers greatest hits which I played over and over during my stay. Their music was therapeutic for me. (When I was about 9yrs, I saw the documentary of the Seekers at a drive- in theatre and from then had seen it countless times – even still!. )
I still love listening to the Seekers. Its not just the music but the wholesomeness of the group which I find captivating.
In 1985, I had become a born again Christian which brought out the “Colours of my life”!
    – like Judith, I left my job at the height of my Career (In Advertising) to “find myself”. – I have no regrets and since my conversion live life to its absolute fullest! John 8:32.
I’m now 64 yrs old. their music is timeless.
