From all I’ve read, he was a class act.
I heard a guy say he was very uppity at a race track once, only used his people even when a great service team was ready and willing to help him. But that’s the only bad personality story I’ve heard. He was a liberal, I think, but that doesn’t mean he was an ugly person.
He was a liberal in the old style. He didn’t run around trashing his country overseas, or calling people who disagreed with him dirty names. He ran his food business as a charity, putting his own money where his mouth was. If we had more Democrats like that, I might (conceivably) still be one.
No, probably not. But he earned the respect he’s getting.
