No doubt you have already reacted to the announcement of this year’s Nobel Prize for Literature going to Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, the French author whose books have been one our shelves for years. You heard the news and said, “Why should I care about that?” I know. We are alike in this way. The Literary Saloon has a good bit of reaction.
The fact that a French-man won the Nobel Prize for Literature will certainly annoy the anglophiles. After all, everyone now accepts that English is the international language.
I apologise for the satire, but speak as a native English speaker. Then, if English is unacceptable, on grounds of linguistic imperialism, what about Esperanto?
Yes Esperanto was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature, in the name of Icelandic poet Baldur Ragnarrson.

Brian, are you advertising your site? I’m not objecting to the Nobel prize winner. If he’s a good writer, bravo for him. I don’t know him or his work, which is why I went to the Literary Saloon to read about it.
