A Cut Above

I’ve always thought Brit Hume was a cut above the rest in the national press. Today, I learn he is moving on to other things. The news is a little old, but I just read it. In Reuters interview with Hume, he says, “I was kind of a nominal Christian for the longest time. When my son died (by suicide in 1998), I came to Christ in a way that was very meaningful to me. If a person is a Christian and tries to face up to the implications of what you say you believe, it’s a pretty big thing. If you do it part time, you’re not really living it.”

  1. There seems to be an implication that the Washington news business is too dirty for a Christian to participate in. I can understand the feeling (I wouldn’t last a fraction of a second in that environment), but I question the principle. Isn’t that precisely where we need Christians to be?

But I certainly wish him well, and hope he comes back in some capacity. I hope it’s not a health matter.

  2. I didn’t read anything suggesting health trouble. And while I agree with you on Christians needing to be in Washington, I wouldn’t doubt that being in the Washington media is something most people could endure for only so many years. There are many good Christians in DC, but I wish there were 100 more gospel-centered churches.
