I remember when it began. He said a big named newspaper asked him to contribute to a feature with several commentators to be run Inauguration Day or the day before, saying in 400 words what they hoped for the Obama administration. At the time, Limbaugh said he was seriously thinking about replying to the request by saying he didn’t need 400 words. He needed only four: I hope he fails. He has gone on to fully explain his statement and of course repeat it several times.
I like what a friend of mine said last night. He said I don’t hope he fails. I know he’ll fail. It’s like seeing a guy on his way to becoming an alcoholic. I know he’ll fail. I hope he doesn’t fail by repenting and perhaps avoid alcohol all together, but if he keeps going in the direction he is now, he will fail.
I think that’s what we’re talking about with Mr. Obama and so many, if not all, the Democrats. They are on the road to economic and moral failure. Saying we hope they don’t fail is like saying we hope they don’t face the consequences of their bad decisions.
Who wants anyone to fail? But I hope we don’t get the new New Deal, too. Or socialized health care. And I’m not sure you can have one without the other.
Where was this question when Bush was still in office? Wasn’t it patently obvious that vast swaths of the Congress and the Democrat party were not merely hoping that he failed, but were actively working to bring about the failure of the Bush administration?
When you see somebody driving their auto at breakneck speed down a road toward a washed-out bridge, do you wish them success?
I hope he doesn’t fail to learn from this disastrous course. I hope this for all of us.
Also, I hope he succeeds in, like others say, changing his mind on almost everything and becomes the greatest US President ever.
So, I hope he succeeds.
I agree –Stupid thing for Rush to start up. Idiotic. But that’s what we get when he is our spokesman, a graceless reputation that clouds any authentic wisdom for most people.
Irritating that we’re talking about it. (Not here, I mean, but that defending/condemning Rush’s stupid remarks are what is news.)
I hope he succeeds in terms of the good of the country, but (in my view) that would mean changing pretty much all his policies.
It’s a no-win argument, and I wish Rush hadn’t started it.
