I recently picked up a book by Kenneth Roberts, author of Northwest Passage. The book was Arundel, which I remember seeing on the school library shelf as a kid, but had never read.
I found the book excellently written, and was all set to become a Roberts fan. But his repeated attacks on Christianity–not just on certain Christians, but on Christian doctrine itself, turned me off it, and I set it aside.
As an aside, the movie “Northwest Passage” got the costumes wrong. The “bonnet” they wear in the movie (something like a modern army cap) should have been the kind you see more frequently in a Scottish costume, similar to a very short chef’s hat.

Pretty good movie, though, if memory serves.
