I hope your holiday shopping has not been as traumatic as this one recorded by Loren Eaton. And if it has, I hope the military or store owners picked up all of your bill–that’s the least they could do.

I loved that story. Unfortunately I would have had to sign up to comment and tell him so.
Lars, knowing that you approve makes me feel all warm and squishy inside. Not in a zombie-has-a-hold-of-my-spleen way, though.
Gracias, gents!
“West Oversea” had better be better than that. Promise me it doesn’t have zombies or doe-eyed girls. Plz?
No zombies. Shape-changers and elves. I forget if the girls are doe-eyed or not.
West Oversea is far better, and I don’t mind saying so myself. Seriously, pick it up if you haven’t yet.
I have to disagree. YOTW was better than West Oversea. The storyline flowed more smoothly and the characters were introduced more thoroughly. The action in West Oversea was more constant, but that precluded filling in the canvas with background details.
Hmmm – elves.
You know what one of the Inklings (and I think it might have been Hugh Dyson) said during Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” readings?
“Not another bloody elf!”
Because I’m in New Zealand, and, really, we’ve had a gutsful of elves.
Lars, yours may be different, though. I’m prepared to give them a fair shake.
Too late, Greybeard – I’ve ordered WO, so if it’s a series, I’m fated to read it out of order. That’s not always a bad thing – sometimes it makes for richer reading.
Best to all.
My elves are not Tolkien’s. My elves are folklore elves, Hidden Folk who deceive.
Oh, good, ’cause I could do without the high-minded type of elf with good cheekbones.
