Jeffrey Overstreet has a contest promoting his new book, Raven’s Ladder. The first two books, Auralia’s Colors and Cyndere’s Midnight, are quite good.

Now, since Overstreet writes movie reviews, has anyone seen a movie called A Knight’s tale? Would you recommend it? Thanks.
– how was that for a segue?
Nope, haven’t seen it. I did see that Overstreet is looking forward to a fantasy or medieval story coming out this year I think. Don’t know what it is though . . .
I haven’t seen it either. A lot of people liked it, but the descriptions I read turned me off.
I went ahead and started watching it last night; and ended up watching half of it. I was interested in it because it has Chaucer as a character. It’s not bad so far, but the soundtrack, at times, is a bit of a nightmare. (This starts off with “We will rock you” by Queen.)
– half the soundtrack is what you might expect, but then you get these rock tunes. It’s bizarre.
The film got better in the second half, and finished strongly. (There’s a moving scene when our hero visits his father who he hasn’t seen for years.)
– a problem I have with the film is that the director seems to find his subject appealing, but at the same time can’t take it seriously.
– It would be much better without the rock. Actually, I think there’s a good film hiding here somewhere.
– I should have expected it, but we get to here ‘We are the champions’ as the credits roll.
– p.s. don’t watch the credits to the very end.
