A couple months ago I watched Patrick Stewart in an ‘old’ BBC production of Hamlet (with D. Jacobi as Hamlet) so it’s odd to see him in this modernist version.
– I don’t like these modernist versions; it’s like seeing biblical figures painted as Venetians or people from 17th century Holland… only much worse.
– your post reminded me there was an an essay by CS Lewis on Hamlet; so I dug it out and I read it. I almost always get a great deal from a Lewis essay… and this is a great one. (Hamlet; the prince or the poem?)
I’ll let you know what I think after I watch in online. Where did you read the Lewis essay?
