Rachel Motte leads a list of summer reading recommendations at The Evangelical Outpost. She’s going to dip into the Qur’an. That’s a bit thick for me at the moment.
I plan to read several Flannery O’Connor stories this summer and The Book of the Dun Cow Other books too, of course, and I’ll let you know as I read them.
Dun Cow is on my reading list thanks to S.D. Smith. I’m sure I’ll get to it, er, sometime or another.
If I can be forgiven for offering another Gene Wolfe suggestion – I recommend his short story ‘The Detective of Dreams’. (The first time I read it I didn’t get it at all; but I just read it again the other day and it clicked for me. It’s really a wonderful story… although I don’t think I completely get it yet.)
– this recommendation is primarily for our detective fan and reviewer.
– If you’ve been afraid of tackling Wolfe here’s a ‘safe’ place to start. It’s included in his recent Best Of collection. (It’s also in a wonderful collection called Hall of fame fantasy, edited by Silverberg; which would make great summertime reading. A favorite of mine was ‘Our fair city’ by Heinlein.
Thank you for thinking of me. I’m not sure I have the motivation to tackle Wolfe again soon, though.
Lars; it’s a short story… I think you can lay down your sword long enough to read a short story right :=)
– I’ll tell you what… You read the Wolfe and I’ll read any recommendation of yours.
