Ha! That’s very helpful information–all of it. This is an old riddle I pulled from an old book . . . and I thought I could remember more than that when I starting writing. That’s all you get.
A Rumor flies like an arrow (or maybe more like a shotgun or cluster bomb) and cannot be restrained.
Years ago I heard the story of a pastor whose parishioner had come to him confessing and asking forgiveness for gossiping about him. He responded by taking her outside on a windy, blustery day and breaking open a feather pillow so that the wind scattered the contents around the neighborhood. He told her that when she was able to gather again all the scattered feathers, she would be able to make right again the damage she had done to his reputation and her church.
Time flies like an arrow.
Fruit flies like a banana.
My Japanese wife says this is a very popular way for Japanese to learn English …. but so often the “r” and “l”s are reversed.
So, the Time arrow thing ….comes out, “Time fries like an allow…..”
Just a cross cultural note………

All right. The answer is the voice.
Silence is golden.
Duct tape is silver.
I was betting on a SCUD missile.
