There’s a lot to like in Firefly, but it was the violence and suspense that did it for me. I am just not up for that kind of emotional wringer. Even the episode with Kaylee and the ball was hard, because I was stressing out over her social faux pas the whole time! However, I also don’t watch war movies, so take that as you will.
But it deserved a better ending than _Serenity._ I wanted more closure to the Mal-Inara situation.
Sigh. Nobody ever puts Defying Gravity on these lists. Some days I think I’m the only person who ever watched it…
The only episode of Firefly I ever watched was one where the crew encountered a bunch of murderous religious fanatics who all talked like backwoods fundamentalists. Pass.
Defying what, Joi?
Defying Gravity. Short-lived sci-fi series. Set about 50 years in the future. A NASA-esque space agency sends a crew of 7 on a multi-year multi-planet expedition. It ended mid-season, after a two-part episode about the first landing on Venus. Very well done.
Loren–you did see the worst episode, by far.
Phil–if you saw the actual pilot (the one starting with a flashback of the civil war), then I think you’ve given the show a fair shake. Sure, there’s less sex in most episodes, but I feel that either the characters, situations, jokes and storytelling in that episode will grab you, or nothing will.
