As promised earlier, we have a few more possible book covers for you to look at. Here’s a sentimental favorite (with me at least): Another version including all my buddies, utilizing the central space for a blurb from Hal Colebatch:
This next one is probably a stronger cover. Fewer and bigger Vikings, and the blurb on parchment at the bottom:
And finally, the same cover with some artistic Photoshop effects. I’m not sure it works for me, personally.
Be kind in your comments. Phil is doing this without remuneration, except for my undying gratitude.
Without renumeration?! Wait a minute… just kidding.
I want to point out that these are drafts, so the second and third variations have a watermark on stock art and more polishing needed.
I like the second and third ones better than the first one.
I like the photoshop effect in the third one on the mountains (and it’ll probably look good on a Kindle/Nook). But I don’t like it on the faces of the people, especially the way it makes the big guy in blue look. It’s fine on the shirts.
And I also like the little parchment blurb, with its bunt edge.
“Burnt” edge, not “bunt” edge. (And I was so proud of myself for getting both “its” correctly.)
I like the middle one best. The smaller crowd has a greater impact in a less is more kind of way. One request would be to fix the eyes of the boy in red to be looking at the same place as the other three to give the group more unity of focus.
The left-most figure has serious red-eye, which needs to be corrected. I’ll try to change the direct of his eyes too.
I like the top one more, because it makes the mountains look bigger.
Of the three, I like the middle one best (particularly the quote on the parchment at the bottom). My six-year-old son likes the first one, because “it has more vikings.”
top one. I agree with Ori.
Second one. The parchment is a very nice touch.
