Briefly, it is He by Whom God willed to communicate Himself to us. Do we wish to seek our life except in God?” – Calvin

  2. That quote from Calvin almost makes it sound like salvation came from angels rather than the angels announcing salvation coming through Jesus. I wonder if a better translation is available that makes the distinction clear.

  3. I wondered about translation too. The word “except” is odd in the graphic quote. But Calvin is saying with Christ’s advent our salvation was secured already. He repeats this idea a few times in this sermon on Luke 2.
