The natives apparently believe Denmark is a great place to live. They’re probably still relieved they weren’t taken over by Norway.

Horror! Devastation! What has become of the Melancholy Danes? Where is Hamlet, where is Kierkegaard?
If it’s come to this, I can only say we’re all doomed. Doomed.
Hey! Go easy on the Danes.
I’m a quarter Dane myself, you know. I know the suffering inherent in being a Dane–the depression, the hopelessness. And I think this is good.
There is nothing like a Dane!
Nothing in the world!
Mixed in with my Norwegian half is a bit of Dane which comes from the part of what’s now southern Sweden which was once ruled by Denmark, so what that really makes me, I don’t know. Moderately immunized to Kierkegaard, perhaps. I took a course on him in college & can’t say I was terribly captivated.
That region is known as Skåne, and its loss remains a devastating memory to all of us Danes, along with the equally tragic loss of Schleswig-Holstein to Germany.
More reason to be depressed.
I knew this post would be a hit. Michael, thank you VERY MUCH for the earworm. That’s a twisted song, you’re singing. Ha, hah.
