It’s a black dog day today, for me. Lovely spring outside, but it is winter (in Spitzbergen) in my soul. My blood is reducing to the consistency of a slurry, and a bar graph has appeared on my right thumbnail, along with the flashing message, “Low Signal.” So what I’ve got is a couple links for you tonight, and then I’ll curl up to watch an Ingmar Bergman film. Something in black and white. In the original Swedish. In slow motion.
Libertas blog put up this post the other day, featuring a photo of Fred Thompson and his wife.
I make so bold as to prognosticate that no guy Fred’s age with an arm accessory that looks like that is ever going to be elected president.
My friend “Mad Mike” Williamson, author of Freehold, showed me this site.
Now that’s my idea of aliens. They don’t come in peace. They aren’t here to teach us some mystical secret that will end all human conflict and repair the environment. They come with a technique for kicking cosmic butt. And watch for the picture of the Master. You’d just have to cast Arnold to play him in the movie, right?
Arnold Toynbee, that is.
My wife thinks she doesn’t look that bad (or unpresidential). We looked for other photos of her and found one in which she looked a little older and more stately, but Sarah thinks she could dress appropriately and fix her hair better than in the photo on Libertas. As far as looks go, however, the Romneys look stately.
The Guilianis look good too.
Nobody with suits as blatantly expensive as Romney’s qualifies as “stately-looking”.
Ooh! Political snarking!
Please continue.
So, derringdo, are you cheering for anyone?
No. I’m pretty sure most of the dem candidates are Charybdis, and I’m pretty sure most of the rep candidates are Scylla, and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna take Odysseus navigational tactics for a voting strategy (that’s closer to Scylla, but you gents knew that).
I like (F.) Thompson, but I can’t shake the feeling that alot of the conservative enthusiasm for him is projection rather than based on anything more solid.
As for the suit snarking: a gentleman is always well-dressed, but never *obviously* well-dressed. Romney, by that metric, is no gentleman.
hmmm, I don’t see it, and I don’t want to judge the candidates on their personal wealth. If he’s an honest, conservative leader, I’ll vote for him. ‘Course, I voted for Bob Dole too, but when you have only two choices. . . . I preferred Alan Keyes in that primary cycle.
