Free access to the ESV Online is now available by signing up at www.esvonline.org. Users are able to customize their own interface, highlight and mark verse numbers, add bookmark ribbons, search the ESV text, and manage personal notes. The free version also includes a variety of daily reading plans and devotional calendars.

This is nothing new. I’ve had free access to the ESV for years through free Bible Software such as E-Sword.net or bible-explorer.com. The primary free Bible websites such as Biblegateway.com and Biblestudytools.net also include the ESV among the translations available. This just gives a new way to access it.
That said, I have to give Crossway Publishers kudos for making the ESV text more available than most of the other copyrighted translations. It’s been my preferred translation since it came out in 2001.
I’ve read the ESV on biblegateway for years too, but I think this is peculiar for the notes and personalization it allows.
