That may be subject touched on in this literature anthology, but I would have assumed it was mentioned in this little history book, 1001 Things Everyone Should Know About African American History, if I hadn’t searched for it in vain. Perhaps Come Juneteenth by Ann Rinaldi and Juneteenth, A Celebration of Freedom by Charles A. Taylor said all there was to say about it.
