"I think extravagance in your life takes energy from the possible extravagances of your mind."

Solstice news

Tomorrow is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, known in the church calendar as St. Thomas' Day. It was on St. Thomas' Day in the year 1028 that Erling Skjalgsson, hero of my novels, The Year of the Warrior, West Oversea, and (soon) Hailstone Mountain, was killed at the battle of Soknasund. (Or Boknasund.)

By coincidence or divine appointment, I have today reached verbal agreement with Baen Books to re-release The Year of the Warrior in e-book form. Look for it soon.

Addendum: Thanks to Ori Pomerantz for facilitating the negotiations.

I really didn't do much, just sent a couple of facebook messages. This was an extremely easy good deed.

Glad to see it available as an e-book. I must add this little gem to my Kindle library.

Based on the used market prices for the paperback it looks like Year of the Warrior has achieved collector status. If you have any remaindered copies stashed away, now may be the time to sell them. That is, unless you think that the coming Kindle edition will increase the demand for paperback copies, in which case the price of those few remaining copies can only go up, up, up.

I almost regret giving my copy to my father in law but I'm glad he had a chance to read it.

I'm completely at a loss to explain the prices of out of print books on Amazon. I cannot believe anyone would pay those prices for that book. I can only assume somebody is fishing to find out what the market will bear. Seems a bizarre strategy to me, but may be they make money over the long term.

Man! I'm gonna have to get a kindle. This is good news. I kind of wish the two books in TYOTW would be released separately. Partly because it's good capitalism, but mostly because I'd like to see a book out there with that great title "The Ghost of the God Tree."

Hurrah!
